During this hands-on workshop, students will learn the basics of natural dyeing with shibori resist methods using a cotton bandana and reusable napkin, and experiment with various foraged dyestuffs and kitchen waste to coax colors from nature. Local plants can be used to dye fibers, in addition to food compost such as carrot greens, onion skins, avocado pits, and more! Throughout the class, we will discuss various methods for pretreatment or 'mordanting' fabric, mindful foraging and safe dye practices, as well as different techniques for creating colorful stories and patterns on cloth and paper.
Create beautiful, one of a kind pieces that can be enjoyed for years to come, while taking time to slow down and appreciate the richness and diversity of plant pigments dwelling alongside us and within our own kitchens! All materials will be provided.Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. No experience is necessary to join, and all are welcome!
