JOIN US TO CELEBRATE ART IN NATURE AT
COOL SPRING PRESERVE!

Sponsored by Rainbow Montessori School and Potomac Valley Audubon Society. Registration is not required. Free and open to the public, everyone is welcome and we hope to see you there!

Nathaniel and Katama are both naturalist educators who enjoy sharing their passion for connecting to the natural world throughout New England and beyond, and are visiting the region for a week-long artist and naturalist residency in collaboration with Young Harvests Farm, Rainbow Montessori School, Claymont Retreat Center and Potomac Valley Audubon Center (PVAS). Nathaniel is a wildlife biologist who works with different species to conduct research and educate others on the importance of respecting the land and all who inhabit it. Katama is an art educator and small business owner of Teach Peace Prints, whose work utilizes natural materials to create seasonally inspired, mixed media art. This series of programming will provide educational opportunities to a diversity of participants in the area, helping to foster and integrate connection with nature through unique, nature-based artistic expression and observation. Participants will learn about community science efforts to preserve biodiversity, plant and naturalist identification, mindful foraging practices, artistic processes that utilize natural materials, as well as ways to nurture a deeper connection with their local ecosystem throughout the seasons. The broader public will have the opportunity to visit Cool Spring Preserve for the culminating art exhibition that will feature artwork created by Katama and 5th grade students from Jefferson elementary school, observe demonstrations of techniques utilized to create the work, as well as attend nature walks with Nathaniel to enjoy seasonal happenings.
