Vernal Pool Awareness Sticker

$3.00

Meet Stanley the Spotted Salamander! The illustration of Stanley was created in 2017, originally as a screen print as a part of an installation, Vernal Migration. (See Installations under Work to view the full piece!). Eventually, his friendly smile and demeanor become known after being worn on hand printed shirts, and was created into a sticker to help spread the word of the Vernal Pool: Local Action to Preserve Biodiversity exhibition in 2019 (See more info on the exhibit under Collaborations). Spotted Salamanders (Ambystoma maculatum) are a type of mole salamander that migrate to vernal pools in the spring to breed. Along with several other types of salamanders and frogs, they are at risk during migration season each year, as their path often leads them across roads and other industrialized areas. Unfortunately, large numbers of species are injured or killed during their journey to the pools due to human causes and high traffic, causing their populations to decrease. One way to help protect these vital creatures is to safely assist them cross, or not drive at all on wet, warm nights during the spring season. Stanley serves as a symbol of urgency and a message to help them migrate safely! Stick him anywhere, spread the word, learn more about them, and start conversations to educate more people about their importance to the ecosystem.
