Join us for a collaborative day of creating, community, herbal medicine making, and reveling in the beauty of mid September in Stonington, Maine with artists Maggie Ruth Haaland of Maggie Ruth Mends and Katama Murray of Teach Peace Prints! This multidisciplinary class will begin with herbal tea and refreshments, followed by an introduction to natural dyeing and eco printing which will include learning how to build a dye bath, create bundles to steam, demystify the mordanting process, and experiment with locally harvested plants, both grown and foraged.
We will pause for lunch (a simple seasonal meal and refreshments are included, and participants are invited to bring side dishes to share) and solo reflective time, then in the afternoon will dive into herbal medicine making, crafting a salve, elixir, and teas with seasonal plants, and play with the camera-less cyanotype printing process to capture this moment of time and place on paper and fabric. All are welcome, and no prior experience is necessary with any techniques - just an open heart and willingness to explore and be together.
